Here is a list of 8 artists who inspire me and my work:
Jeremy Corrol:
Jeremy Corrol is a fantastic photographer who created a real eyeopening exhibition named 'Entanglement' , it was when I discovered this exhibit my attention was drew straight to his work. Corrol created this series of work to highlight very serious issues of pollution that is going on in our sea which we can not see, for example: sea animals becoming tangled in waste and also consuming the waste which is killing them and their homes.
His photographs show the situations that sea animals are in but in Human form, these pieces show that animals lives matter just as much as ours and if you can see how wrong this effect is on humans then surely you can understand how awful this is for our animals also.
Throughout the set of photographs the models Jeremy has used range through different ages from kids to adults which I believe also portrays a message that it is happening to all see animals even the babies. I really like how he has not focused on just one part of the Pollution and instead he has broadcasted multiple of different parts where he has made : plastic waste meals , waste drinks, entanglement in waste and more.
All photographs in this exhibit have been photographed in high key lighting with plain white backgrounds so that the main focus is the issue.
Ann Upton:
Ann Upton is 100% up there with my favourite artists, the work she creates is so incredible. Ann is a Hawaiian artist who has only been painting under 2 years, although she has not long been painting for that long she has stated on a recent post that she has been creative her whole life in different areas including poetry.
All of her pieces are made up of the fluid art techniques where she uses Acrylic as her medium. To give all finished work pieces a more realistic touch she coats them with resin to give them that wet look effect which works so well.
When researching I came around a statement that Ann loves the calmness and peacefulness of the Ocean and when looking at her work I can really feel this. The waves she creates look so gentle just slowly shifting in and out, her work gives of such a lovely calm feeling.
Viktoria Astrom:
Viktoria Astrom is a amazing Printmaker, Illustrator and Animator who’s work inspires me hugely.
I love all of the work Viktoria creates but her print making skills always blow me away! She shares photos and even videos of her work in progress which is always nice to see what skills the artists use to also help you gain more knowledge and ability.
It was the artists print’s of animals which had first caught my eye but then after following this artist for awhile it was her own personal project that really caught my eye. On Astrom’s Instagram she made a post on how she had started to research into her families history by looking at her family tree (This is something I would love to do one day!) but because of there being no photographs of her ancestors she made up her own little illustrations of them, amazing idea. Not only that but her research went on of discovering more information on her family and found her Ancestors Cottage and also a memorial spot where one of her relatives ,who had been the first Swedish Female Aviator, had sadly died when Skydiving. I feel that by Viktoria sharing her families history that she has turned into art with us is really special and makes you love her art even more.
Angela Haseltine:
Now if there is a artist you should all be looking at it should be Angela Haseltine, what an amazing woman! It isn’t just her work that amazes me but also her determantion and motivation to help reduce the plastic pollution. Her work is beautiful and is also apart of her own movement.
When doing my research on Haseltine I discovered that her project all started when she started to notice the build of plastic on Pristine Southern Oregon Beaches and that is when it all set off. Since then Angela has gathered hundreds of volunteers that would help her to gather up all of these plastics and other rubbish that would be laying on the Beaches and turn it all into art. The art they create from their findings are of Sea animals that were most affected by the plastic pollution, all of these sculptures are a large scale and range from animals such as: Sea Lions, Fish, Octopus’, Turtles and so much more. Angela Haseltine’s Sculptures are now traveling all over the World to send out the message on plastic pollution, this tour in known as the ‘Washed Ashore Project’.
My favourite kinds of artists are the ones who send out important messages and Angela is definitely one of them.
Scott Horn:
Scott Horn is artist I have recently discovered when doing research on sculptures of sea animals. It was his series of Jellyfish sculptures that drew me in towards his work. He created the Jellyfish in hope to raise awareness on Plastic Pollution and the everyday effects it has on animals that come into contact with the plastics. This series is called Drastic Plastic, I think the title of the work also fits very well with the subject matter because it really is creating drastic measures.
The sculptures all go from different sizes and are all made from rubbish such as: Plastic bags, plastic bottles, electrical cords and wire. He would make sure that all the rubbish would fit the shape to represent the Jellyfish, he located these pieces of art above Rivers. This series of art was made back in 2010.
Scott Horn has held many exhibitions and collaborated with other artists. After looking on his website I could see he has a real talent when it comes to art especially with the designs he created on sheets of Leather, his work is so interesting to look at.
Charlotte Knox:
Charlotte Knox is a freelance Illustrator and Painter who uses such wonderful techniques in her art work, she is also a member in the Art Workers Guild. After looking through her pieces I could see that she mainly focus’ her art on Seafoods, Fruit, Vegetables and Plants. In her work she entertains bright colours mainly her yellows and greens but even though these colours are so strong they also give off a nice, calm relaxing feeling.
She has commissioned with many companies where she has teamed up and has provided Royal Mail stamps, packaging, labels and books such as: Cookbooks ,guide books and more.
Charlotte’s success in art has gained her clients from big companies all around the World, for example : Asda, Penguin Books, Royal Mail , Waitress and many more.
Over the years the artist has been awarded prizes for her skills and achieved getting her work into huge exhibitions.
Salvador Dali:
Salvador was a Spanish artist who worked in different artistic areas including: painting, sculpture, photography and film. Dali was a huge part of the Surrealist movement around the 1930’s.
I like to look at Salvador Dali’s work a lot as it is so interesting and the more you look at it the more it seems to pull you in as you start noticing more and more going on. I enjoy how unique and unusual all of his pieces are and how fascinating it is to view all the different shapes he contains in his work and how he likes to almost stretch the objects.
Personally one of my favourite art works from Salvador Dali is his Surrealist Sculpture ‘Lobster Telephone’ which he had made in 1936. I feel that it is the Lobster that draws me to this pieces as I enjoy adding Lobster's into my work also. This is not the only reason I like this piece but also how random it is to have a Lobster placed on top of a telephone. When reading into this art work I found out that both objects are also in his: paintings, drawings and designs that he had also made in the 1930’s, I liked how he connected them in this way.
Katie Scott:
Katie Scott is another artist who inspires me incredibly. I discovered this artist when I came across hers and Jenny Broom's book named ‘Animalium’ which was full of Katie’s animal illustrations, of course I had to purchase this book! After doing some research I learnt that the artist had also published a couple more books including activity and colouring books.
I love the effect the artist has on her work by turning her Scientific knowledge into art and then adding a modern look to it. Not only does she create illustrations of animals but also plants and body parts.
I have also fell in love with one of Katie’s most recent project which was a wallpaper collection named ‘House of Hackney’, this project is a range of wallpapers with Katie’s designs on them and they’re all so amazing.
