Great artist in their own words is such a interesting documentry to watch as I enjoyed listening to other peoples opinions and comparing to my own.

One of the topics I analysed peoples views on was Carl Andre’s brick art. So many people believed that Andre’s bricks were not art, the reason being because they thought they can easily go and pick up some bricks and layout but I don’t believe thats the case. I disagree with these judgements as that’s like saying we can easily go and pick up paint and then paint a canvas but not one paitning would be the same as we all have different techniques and processes. Carl done so much more then just place these bricks anyway he wanted, he planned these pieces by looking at the: colours of bricks, sizes of bricks, the angles and so much more.

Being a artist you should always remind your self that a handful of peoples negative reviews does not determine what your work is. Everyone has different tastes and not everyone can handle certain art works. Your work is yours and it discribes you. Work can be prescious to you as in: its meaning, how it looks, the process or it could even be just a expression of disctruture so not so precious. Your work can even be your healer.

The documentry then moved onto Ricard Long where people were also questioning his work also on wether it was art or not. I feel that when Long stated that ‘The process was just as important as the final piece’ could go both ways really. Some pieces do need a lot of planning and then others are just worked straight into and this all comes down to what kind of art work the artist is creating. I know that when I create art work I sometimes like to plan before starting and other times I will get a idea into my Head and I will just go for it.

Although I am not sure how I totally feel about their work, Gilbert and George created some extraordinary work. The work that they had shown was not for everyone but it did defiantly drag you in to to stand and watch what was going on. I have never came across work like theirs so this also pulled me in a bit more, it is always nice to see something a little different.

I feel that I identify a lot near towards Louise Bourgeois work as her work has such depth behind it. As someone who likes to produce work that has meaning behind it I have set my own projects upon: feminism, saving the sea and more. I enjoy the idea of having your voice and opinions heard through your art. Although I am someone who likes to have control of my work I would love to try out releasing anger through art in the way Louise did.
