This is modern art makes you push your mind to develop ideas on ‘Can anything be art?’ and after watching this film I really believe anything can be art.
Art isn’t just how you have painted or drew something but also from how you have looked at it. I learnt from this film that Art can even be just how you have placed something for example Duchamp’s ready mades. In 1913 Marcel Duchamp had quoted that anything could be art and then proved it with his work. I took a liking to one of Duchamp’s pieces where he had a white stool with a bike wheel frame placed on top of it. What I liked about this piece is how the white stool and the black frame contrasted against each other and gave of a nice effect, I liked how these two objects were made up of gaps which then created a nice reflection of it behind this master piece.
My eye was then caught by another piece named Golconda by the artist Rene Magritte which he had painted in 1953. This painting did not stand out to me because of the way it looked but more of the way it made me think. I was questioning to myself what was going on and which way were these men falling, where they coming down or going up?
Through out this sitting I enjoyed watching how artist decided to take a less serious route in their pathways when doing their work. It was so interesting to see how they would create such a marvellous piece and then manage to add humour to it. Although these art works were humours some came across quite shocking too for example when Piero Manzoni had canned his own Excrement but this was his goal to shock his audience and it worked and people even bought these items from him!
Overall I thought this was a excellent film and one of the best art documentaries I have watched. This documentary had me thinking the whole way through and I do believe that is what the aim was, other artists who were apart of this film also inspired me and taught me a lot.
