The Cubism movement evolved in the year 1907 which was brought to light by two very well known artists, Pablo Picasso and George Brague. Cubism is an abstract style of work which usually demonstrates objects or Human forms, these pieces are made up from geometric shapes and fragments that all combine together to portray a certain image. Cubism became a huge hit very quickly and everyone started to jump on board with this movement. There were many famous paintings produced throughout this event, such as: Girl before a Mirror by Pablo Picasso, Violin and Candlestick by Georges Braque, Portrait of Pablo Picasso by Juan Gris and so many more.

I have really enjoyed involving a cubist style into my work as I love watching the whole development come together, I like to photograph fragment by fragment so I can look back at my progression as it is just so fascinating. I have only been experimenting with Cubism since the start of this year but I have been really enjoying my exploration. When I am producing my artwork I like to use masking tape to achieve such defined, bold lines. Peeling back the masking tape once I have applied the paint is one of the most satisfying parts of the progress, it is always a huge relief to see that your paint has all kept intact and not bled under the tape. I always use acrylic painting for these certain paintings as it allows me to add more layers and blends very well.

Over the past year I have fallen in love with Cubism but I actually have a bit of a funny story too.. I always remember around 2017 when I was giving the topic of Cubism towards an ongoing presentation in College, I remember not being so into the style and thinking how it just looked like a lot of shapes and now it is one of my favourite art movements in history. I thought that I would involve my story in my journal because it actually means something to me, it proves to me that I am discovering myself within art more and more as the years go on and that I really am moving forward in my art journey.
