Exhibition Location Ideas:

So after doing some planning and research I narrowed down my list of locations of where I plan on exhibiting my work. The locations that I have the most interest in are: The Sunderland Empire, The Sunderland Empire Cinema, The Royalty Theatre, The Murray Library and The Shaun Space.

The reason that I have chosen these venue’s is due to them linking in with my theme of masks and also with my research of Theatre, I feel that this is where my work would be best suited.

The Sunderland Empire and The Royalty Theatre:

If my work was to be situated in the Sunderland Empire or The Royalty Theatre I would be looking at only exhibiting my ‘Taking off our mask’ series as I would be hoping to display a more neat, organised look. I feel that this series of work would look more ‘together’ due to them all connecting. I have two ideas for how I would like my work being set out, so far my ideas are: all being nailed vertically one after another but with a space of at least 40cm’s between each one and the other idea of them all being placed in a group with my largest canvas being in the middle then the rest of the canvas’

surrounding it as if they were flowing from the largest one. I would hope that I could get these paintings to be all placed on a wall that either leads or leads out from the stage, this reason being as everyone is on their way or way out from seeing people acting while wearing these masks and to just send out a message that it is ok to be you and take off your mask.

The Sunderland Empire Cinema:

Due to the Cinema location being very,very popular with families I have the idea of presenting a live outcome. I plan on gathering a couple of people either Dancers,Singers or Actors that would wear my masks and put on some kind of performance. I had another idea that was very similar but the change was to have them perform at the University in a Photography studio while I record it then I

could project it at the Cinema. Thinking

ahead of my plan’s I took into consideration that if I displayed a live performance it would be best to have it just as a one or two day thing as it may be harder to find performers with the same kind of schedules. Whereas if I used a projection I could exhibit it for longer as I would not need the performers everyday, but on the downside of this I would need to enquire more on the situation of having an actual projector.

The Murray Library:

So out of all my locations I feel that The Murray Library would be the most straight forward. My plans would be to exhibit the whole collection of my work. I would like the majority of my masks to be installed at the ends of the book shelf colums and for my framed drawings and prints I would like them to be placed on small tables near the sitting/reading areas. I would also display my ‘Taking off our masks’ but I would like this set to be all nearby each other, preferably on one long wall together. The one thing that could not be so good for this

area is since they will be spread out all over the Library they will be harder to take care of/watch over them, due to them not all being in sight this could lead to them being damaged or even been stolen.

The Shaun Space;

The Shaun Space is more of a back up plan for me as at this point I would rather exhibit my work where it links in and is more open to the public but even if I do situate my work elsewhere I could still insert my work here as an extra exhibition. I would add in all of my work to fulfill all of the walls, I would still have the opportunity of creating a projection as there is a projector already installed in this room. I would have all of my masks surrounded the whole room on 3 walls and for my ‘Taking off our mask’ I would like one whole wall dedicated to them as they will be sending out a different message to my other masks.
