On the 11th February I had the opportunity to visit Dance City which is located in Newcastle. This privilege consisted of me and 3 other people been allowed to anticipate in a dance class by sitting observing the dancers whilst sketching at the same time.

Throughout the whole performance I studied aspects such as: movement , flexibility, sound, speed and choreography. I was so intrigued by the way the dancers would interpret the moves into the rhythm of the music and how they were all so in sync to one another.

It was emzmarzing to watch how elastic the human body can be, I feel this is what stud out to me the most. Due to me been so drawn in by the flexibility and their motion I decided that this is what I wanted my main focus to show in my art work. Straight away when I got home I gathered all of my sketches together and picked out the ones I was the most interested in combining into my final art piece, I then edited these sketches until I achieved my final structure plan. I wanted to produce a response that revolved around similes and metaphors portraying their movements, for example: Off they went spinning around like Windmills, twisting and stretching as the Helter Skelter and a few more other ideas.

Metaphorical Movements, 30cmx30cm.

I decided to do a set of two canvas’ sized for my final outcome, I decided to do 2 as just having one would be rather small to display in such a space. I coated both of my canvas’ in layers of white acrylic paint for a fresh, clean background which also helps with priming. I then drew my designs on the base lightly using a pencil, this is so I could alter the pattern if I made any mistakes. I went over my guidance using a black marker, which helped me give my figures a simple but bold outline. I wanted my art work to have a minimalistic style to it so that the attention was all focused on the figures and their structure.
