I visited a fantastic exhibition over at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, this exhibit shown 140 years of art and educated you on the happenings along the period of time.

The timeline of events beneath each piece of art really stud out to me as I was so interested in what was going on at the Museum while these paintings and drawings were been displayed. The timeline showed events such as: The Museum and Winter Gardens opening in the 1870’s, the entry fee being abolished in the 1900’s, a scheme to improve the building been pushed back due to the outbreak of The Second World War in the 1930’s, the building being being badly damaged in the 1940’s which called for the building to be demolished after being hit by a Parachute Mine and so much more.

The exhibit hung beautiful artwork from over the years which were all very different and there was a mixture of mediums used, for example: Oil paints, Acrylic paints, Charcoal, Ink, Graphite and a few more. When touring this display I did notice that back in the 18th and 19th century that Oil paintings seemed to be the most popular here. There were many very talented artists who had their work up, some of these artist’s been: Francis Dodd, Herbert David Richter, Edmund Leycester-Roxby, Neil Macpherson, Andrew Tift and of course there were many more impressive artists here.

I loved this exhibition and not only did I enjoy looking at all of the art work but also learning more about the history of The Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. 140 years of art was set up And framed beautifully on pure white walls with all focus set upon the art. What a wonderful exhibit.
